ATA is a voluntary assessment programme for technicians working in the retail motor industry. It has the backing of major vehicle manufacturers, independent repair organisations, Insurance organisations, Thatcham and Automotive Skills, which is the Sector Skills Council for the retail motor industry.
ATA is based upon National Occupational Standards to ensure that it meets the skills requirements of the retail motor industry.
A robust system
To achieve accreditation, technicians must pass a series of practical assessments and an on-line knowledge test at an ATA Approved Assessment Centre.
To ensure that they keep up-to-date with new technologies, technicians are re-assessed every 3 years to maintain their accreditation.
ATA registered technicians are bound by a special Code of Conduct and they are issued with a photo identity card.
