With the increasing complexity and sophistication of vehicles and a shortage of skilled individuals, there has never been a greater need for competent Vehicle Damage Assessors.
Properly trained Vehicle Damage Assessors are highly skilled professionals, Automotive Technician Accreditation has been developed to enable identification of their knowledge and skills.
ATA is a voluntary assessment programme for Vehicle Damage Assessors working in the retail motor industry and automotive insurance sector. It has the backing of major vehicle manufacturers, independent service and repair organisations, UK insurance organisations, BSI, Thatcham and IAEA.
ATA registered Vehicle Damage Assessors sign and are bound by a special Code of Conduct. They are issued with a photo identity card, included on a public register on a dedicated website and there is publicity and point-of-sale material available.
A universal standard of competence
ATA is based on National Occupational Standards to ensure that it meets the skills requirements of the retail motor industry.
To achieve accreditation, Vehicle Damage Assessors must pass a series of online knowledge tests and practical assessments at an ATA Approved Assessment Centre. The knowledge test must be successfully completed before attending the practical assessments.
For Vehicle Damage Assessors there is only one competency level which is - Vehicle Damage Assessor.
For the assessment fee for Vehicle Damage Assessor you will have to contact the approved assessment centre. All fees are exempt from VAT.
Technician pre-requisites
To be eligible to take the assessment, a Vehicle Damage Assessor must have at least 5 years industry experience with a minimum of 2 experience in an appropriate role (i.e. estimator or similar).
