You can now prove your competence with Automotive Technician Accreditation
With the increasing complexity and sophistication of vehicles and a shortage of skilled individuals, there has never been a greater need for competent technicians.
Fully trained technicians are highly skilled professionals, Automotive Technician Accreditation has been developed to enable them to receive the recognition they deserve.
ATA is a voluntary assessment programme for technicians working in the retail motor industry. It has the support of organisations across the sector including; vehicle manufacturers, independent repairers, Insurers, Thatcham and the Sector Skills Council.
ATA registered technicians sign and are bound by a special Code of Conduct. They are issued with a photo identity card, included on a public register within the ATA website and there is publicity and point-of-sale material available.
A universal standard of competence
ATA is based on National Occupational Standards (NOS) to ensure that it meets the skills requirements of the retail motor industry.
To achieve accreditation, technicians must pass a series of practical assessments and an online knowledge test at an ATA Approved Assessment Centre.
In order for technicians to prove current competency within the Cosmetic Repair industry there are currently two competency levels:
This accreditation route is valid for a period of 3 years and must be obtained via an ATA approved centre. Technicians will be required to undertake a one day practical assessment including an on-line test at technician level and a two day practical assessment including an on-line test at Senior Technician level.
The centre will advise the cost of the assessment*. There is a single accreditation fee of £50, which includes registration, on-line testing and individual photo identity card.
*Assessment fees may vary.
Currently, there are two centres offering ATA Cosmetic Repair at Technician and Senior Technician levels:
