Delphi Product & Service Solutions's £4million training centre in Warwick has achieved full approval from the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) to offer assessments for Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA).
Delphi's facility is equipped to offer technicians with the opportunity of gaining ATA accreditation at all three levels - Service Maintenance Technician, Diagnostic Technician and Master Technician.
“Delphi fully supports the efforts of the IMI in establishing industry recognised standards for vehicle service and repair,” commented Kevin Kelly, service technology manager for Delphi Product & Service Solutions, Europe.
“With increasingly sophisticated vehicle systems, it is essential that today’s technicians are equipped with up to date skills and knowledge of how to service modern vehicles safely and effectively. The ATA scheme gives motorists the confidence that any work carried out on their vehicle will have been done by a competent technician whose skills have been independently assessed," continued Mr Kelly.
To achieve ATA accredited status, technicians are required to complete a number of practical assessments and a theory test. The assessments cover a variety of vehicle systems including brakes, air conditioning, engine electrical, engine mechanical, steering and suspension and vehicle electronics. At Master Technician level, ATA ssessment also includes areas such as customer liaison and coaching skills.
“Delphi has a wealth of experience in developing a wide range of original equipment technologies for vehicle manufacturers around the world as well as for the aftermarket,” added Kelly.
“By offering technician courses in support of the levels of ATA accreditation, we are able to share our world-class expertise and ensure that the highest skill levels are transferred to the aftermarket.”
Delphi can accommodate up to eight technicians on each of its accreditation courses, which last for one full day each. As an approved IMI centre, Delphi is able to provide any remedial or supplementary training for technicians who do not successfully pass any of the accreditation modules.
The assessments are available to all technicians and will be run throughout the year at the Delphi Product & Service Solutions’ training centre in Warwick.
