The Institute of the Motor Industry, governing body for Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA), has welcomed the decision of the National Consumer Council to defer a decision to submit a 'super-complaint' to the Department of Trade of Industry regarding the retail motor industry.
Commented Sarah Sillars, Chief Executive, IMI:
“Based on sufficient evidence of positive progress to raise standards on a number of fronts, the IMI welcomes the decision of the National Consumer Council to defer a submission, pending a further review in 2007. We know that the NCC is supportive of recent initiatives that have been introduced to measure and recognise high standards of individual competence and business performance, including the Automotive Technician Accreditation scheme and Kitemark for Automotive Services and we fully appreciate and support the collective action which the industry needs to take to ensure that a potential ‘supercomplaint’ does not become a reality.”
